👩🏾 Want to support Black artists & businesses? SMUSH Gallery is hosting The [JERSEY] Function this Saturday featuring Black dancers, poets, and vendors.

🌿 Fan of vegan and/or community spaces? Check out the Plant Space Grand Opening Saturday with free tastings, music, games, and live mural painting.

♀️ Pro-choice proponent? A number of McNair students are organizing an Abortion Rights Rally in response to the Supreme Court leak in front of City Hall on Sunday.

Free Wine Tasting: Wines of Languedoc

Plates 4 Parks: Mocktails Under The Moonlight

  • 6-8pm at Mary McLeod Bethune Park

  • Plates 4 Parks, the Jersey City Parks Coalition’s signature fundraising event, is excited to open the 2022 Season with Mocktails under the Moonlight, featuring Jersey City Chef Alex Sartoga, founder and owner of Garden Steaks. This outdoor event is adult focused with signature mocktails, appetizers, and entertainment.

Fundraising Concert in support of Ukraine

  • 7-9:30pm at Grace Church Van Vorst

  • The concert portion will feature traditional Ukrainian dancing, Lenny Khmel on violin and Lesya Verba on bandura. We are also pleased to feature a piano performance by the one and only Piano Extremist live from Ukraine! 100% of proceeds from the evening will support Ukrainian Jersey City work providing support to displaced orphanages in Vinnytsia and Lviv and to the displaced persons center in Kryvyi Rih.

Free NJCU Performance: An Opera Double Bill

  • 7:30pm Fri/Sat at West Side Theatre

  • Love and comedy are on trial as NJCU’s Music, Dance, and Theatre Department presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s one-act comedy “Trial by Jury” and excerpts from Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffman.” Directed by Dr. Robert Prowse. Music direction by David Maiullo. The cast features NJCU students and alumni.

Welcome Home Spring Clothing Drive Volunteering

  • 10am-4:30pm at 140 Sip Ave

  • We're helping our friends prepare for the warmer months! On Saturday, May 21st, we'll receive donations and set up in the morning and set up shop for our friends in the afternoon.

  • 2 hour shifts throughout day available, must register in advance

Far East: An AAPI Heritage Month Showcase

We'll also be joined by the Taiko Masala Drum Troupe & enjoy art in a dynamic public art exhibit curated by our friends at Walk-Bye.

Museum of Jersey City History Open House

  • A day of art, music, historical exhibits, and house tours, ending with a discussion of the MJCH's mission and prospective programming beginning at approximately 3:00pm. Coffee and donuts, too!

Latin Jazz Performance: Edmar Castaneda w/Gregoire Maret

  • 7pm at the Statuary

  • Edmar Castañeda nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category "Best Latin Jazz Album" with his album Family. @nytimes notes, "...Castaneda... engage[s] modern jazz in ways that honor...cultural origins, and [he has] the capacity to astonish by virtue of [his] fingerstyle technique.” Grégoire Maret redefined the role of the harmonica, finding fresh pathways through a remarkable variety of styles. @herbiehancock has called Maret "one of the most creative musicians around," while @therealmarcusmiller has declared that he is "carrying the instrument into the 21st century with prowess, passion, and creativity."
